Dear

Over
the Holidays, the shared server
that hosts your account was severely
compromised by malicious hacking
activity. The nature of the compromise
corrupted recent backups, was well
hidden, and was triggered several
times. The
hack was intended to destroy all
data on the server, and to remain
hidden and persistent, so that when
data was restored from backup, it
was destroyed shortly thereafter.
During the window of downtime
for the Murphy server, service was
intermittent and much of the time,
service was completely unavailable.
Our staff, managers, and directors
were directly involved round the
clock as the server was reprovisioned
onto newer and better hardware,
backups were restored, security
analysis took place, and as
we traced the root of the problem.
The server is now restored
and the offending hacker is being
traced and will be pursued to the
fullest extent of the law. We
are taking serious measures to ensure
that this type of activity will
not happen again.
We
wish to express our apologies for
the extended duration of the outage
and to inform you of the cause of
the outage. We were unable
to provide any more information
than was available on our network
status page during the recovery
because we wanted to accurately
represent the facts. On
